I had just turned 37. During the pregnancy, I got the first signs that my back was not strong. I had one child and I was strongly advised not to have more children, since this could lead to disablement. Over the next years I experienced dislocations of the back with ever shorter intervals. The first times I was treated with medicine, including nerve blocks. In the early 1980’s, I went to a chiropractor for the first time, and since then I have frequented quite a number of them in several parts of the world. Usually I would not seek their help until I could hardly walk into the clinic by myself. I was never given a real diagnosis, and no form of preventive treatment. Going to the family doctor, I was normally prescribed strong medicine, which at the time was necessary to relieve the pain. The different chiropractors normally would give me seven to eight treatments followed by some muscle training and then I would be left to myself again. Unfortunately this has not kept the breakdowns from coming back, every time more painful.

In the summer of 2005 my husband and I moved to the USA, and we found a house in Alexandria. After the hard work of moving-emptying our house in Denmark and moving into our house here, it became very clear to me at the beginning of September that I was headed directly towards another breakdown of my back, and I had some vivid memories of my last very painful-breakdown in 2003, when I had needed several months to recover.

I started searching the internet for chiropractic care. I came across King Street Back & Neck Care, and I decided to ask for an appointment with Dr. Borenstein. He performed a very careful examination and after walking me through a series of x-rays he and Dr. Trauben gave me a clear diagnosis, leading to a full proposal for a treatment plan lasting six to eight months.

Oddly enough, it was a good day for me because I had been diagnosed for the first time, and I had been given a thorough explanation of what it meant for me to suffer from chronic arthritis of the spine. At the same time I had been given some hope for a better life through a treatment plan, because it was still not too late to do something about it. The first three months I had three weekly treatments, and after just a few visits to the clinic I began feeling improvements. I could actually go for short walks without having severe pain afterwards. Simultaneously I began on a healthy diet, which helped me lose weight with an added positive impact on my knees.

After a few weeks we began to take care of my neck. There had been pain and there have been several tears before the goal line began to come into sight. Today I am happy that I did. It is worth a lot being able to turn my head again without having to turn my entire body. Evaluations with the chiropractor along the way are integral to the treatment along with a continuous dialogue about my situation as a patient and my feeling of “recovery”. I am definitely heading towards a better life and an improved quality of life. Of course I don’t have a new spine, but some days it almost feels as if it is.

I was an accidental patient with King Street Back & Neck Care, but it has been a very happy coincidence. Here, they realized what I needed and they were able to come up with a diagnosis and a treatment plan that has been followed through by the entire staff all the way. With the continuing support from the team, you really feel safe and in good hands here.

My first try at chiropractic was about 5 years ago and a total flop. I tried it again in October 2003 and had the luck to end up with King Street Back & Neck Care. Since then I am a true believer and devoted fan of the whole crew there.

Due to my physical work as an animal care technician I suffered from lower back pain and muscle spasms in my mid-back. Because I believe in natural medicine, I was first very reluctant to take anything over the counter, but the pain was so severe that I broke down and tried everything from Aleve, Tylenol, Doan’s’ to Aspirin, all to no avail. I had to quit my job, because my body could not cope with the strain anymore. Even the smallest tasks, lifting and bending, were torture. I did not know how to stand, sit and lay comfortably anymore.

When I started the program with King Street Back & Neck Care my body did not know what hit it. Even after only a few treatments’ the spasms went away and my lower back went from screaming to a murmur. I will always have some problems with my left hip, because it is higher than the right, but all in my entire whole back has improved so much, that I have endurance again. Oh was I in pain! The lower pain extended down my leg, around my calf and all the way to my toes. I doctored with my primary care practice for three weeks. They sent me for an x-ray and told me to take four Advil three times a day. By the end of the third week I was still in pain and I had taken way too much Advil. Constant pain turned my life into a nightmare and me into a grouch. My family was beside themselves with worry about me.

In late January 2005 I called King Street Back and Neck Care and made an appointment. The staff was very helpful and understanding. They got me in to see Dr. Trauben the next day. He spent an hour with me helping me understand what “Chiropractic” meant and how he could help me. He reviewed the x-rays I had with me and took additional x-rays of my neck. He reviewed all my x-rays at my follow-up appointment and started my treatment.

Being new to Chiropractic care, I was nervous about having adjustments. Much to my delight both Dr. Trauben and Dr. Borenstein made me very comfortable. The staff is also great and they are an integral part of my successful treatment. My back, leg and toe pain was 50% better after just three adjustments with Dr. B. I couldn’t believe the difference. After three months of treatment, I am pain free. Occasionally, I have lower back muscle pain but Dr.B has coached me on how to avoid that as well.

I came to King Street Back and Neck Care for my back. They educated me about chiropractic and how to care for my back. They also educated me about how the spine and neck are supposed to work together. The surprise benefits, and happily so, is no more migraine headaches. Chiropractic care is now a regular part of my health care. I’m working on my family to do the same.

I started my treatment just after Christmas 2005, and my back had given out. No one was at home at the time and I reached down to pick up my keys and couldn’t stand back up straight. The pain was so bad it forced me to the floor where I stayed for a half hour unable to stand up after a half dozen tries. Finally, after loud scream and determination I got up and drove myself to the military hospital emergency room. It took about as long to get out of the car as it did to get in it (5-10 minutes). I was put in a wheel chair and wheeled to a room with a stretcher. The doctor prescribed painkillers to me but no additional care or treatment.

I had to go through 2 sleepless nights as the slightest shift or turn sent pain through my body and I was hesitant about making the slightest twist, turn or bend. I couldn’t wait until Monday when King Street Back and Neck Care (KSBNC) back opened. I sat down with Dr. Trauben and he listened carefully to all my complaints, explained what were going on with my back, how the nerves were being pressured. Next I was told what he was going to do relieve most of it, as it would take some time to bring it back to the way it normally was, started the adjustments. I felt the pain start to immediately go away.

After each visit I have felt great. At first I was hesitant about having a chiropractor, now I’m glad I did because if I had to depend on just pain medicine as was first suggested to me by the military doctor, I’d probably have a cane or be in a wheelchair. Without a doubt I feel I made the right decision to come to KSBNC and have my back taken care of. At this time I feel as though I have made a full recover. The staff is professional, and very helpful, the service outstanding. I would recommend KSBNC to anyone with a back problem to give it a try.

In February 2005 I received my first pressure point massage at the King Street Back & Neck Care. I met wonderful people who I entrusted for the next several months with the care of my spine and neck. I have a very stress-filled job and I thought it was natural to feel all the tension in the neck and mid-back constantly. I also had an aggravated sciatic nerve in my left glut area. I had come to live with this discomfort begrudgingly. So, as I saw my first set of x-rays I started to get the idea of what I could do, with these helpful practitioners to get me feeling better. My sciatic pain is completely at ease-oh, it might come back, but I will know where to go and what to do if I aggravate it again. My back alignment is straighter and thus the tension in my back is much relieved. And my neck, well who knew that it wasn’t supposed to jut out like my Neanderthal ancestors. For the progress to show, I have had to work at home and in their office on corrective care in addition to getting “cracked” or better said – aligned more naturally as our bodies are intended. I prefer working on my corrective care at home, but in the office I get the attention and care of the staff.

My improvements have given me more restful sleep at nights, better energy during the day, tools to work with pressure points to relieve them from developing into knots. And mostly, the staff I have come to enjoy as people in my life, helping me live a better quality of life!

I am so thankful that I gave King Street Back and Neck Care a chance. I began my care in late April of 2005. I had been having chest and back pains for about a year, and almost daily by that point. It was all terribly scary and especially because I was 26 years old with no other medical problems. I had seen my primary care physician, but she couldn’t locate what was causing the point. I was sent to several specialists for testing, including a Neurologist and a Cardiologist. All the tests claimed I was healthy, however the pain was real and worsening.

My husband suggested that I try a chiropractor, so I turned to my insurance book, picked a name and made and appointment. I gave it a few weeks of extreme frustration and several bad visits. I was ready to write-off chiropractic care altogether. I took a few months break from doctors in general, but was urged again by my husband to give another chiropractor another chance. He suggested King Street Back & Neck Care, since it was close to our house and looked like a clean office. He convinced me that not all chiropractors were the same. Well, I was not about to start popping pain pills, so I reconsidered and eventually made an appointment at King Street Back & Neck Care.

My first visit was surprisingly wonderful: a clean office, a friendly staff and doctors who didn’t seem to think of their patients as numbers! I was instantly comfortable with this new office and began on the track of corrective care. Although it has taken longer than I had hoped and anticipated, I am so thankful I committed to this care. My pain is under control and my back health has tremendously improved.

The staff and doctors truly care and commit to seeing their patients’ conditions improve. They have been supportive, encouraging and accommodating throughout the process. I am down to one visit a week which will soon turn into once every other week and then once a month. I have accepted that I will have issues with my back. My chest and back pains have gone away, however this is something I will have to consider and remember for the rest of my life. I now know the problem and the remedy. Together we have controlled and managed the situation, which has enhanced my quality of life.
