Genetics And Chiropractic Part1

Monday, May 30th, 2011

With much evidence as support, chiropractic and wellness care has proven to be a positive influence on health behaviors and general wellbeing, as well as lowering traditional medical costs. Still, not much has been known about chiropractic adjustments’ effect on the chemistry of biological processes. Chiropractic thus met the field of genetics.

According to one study, chiropractic care acts upon physiological processes that determine oxidative stress and DNA’s ability to repair itself. Such findings scientifically explain the positive effects that chiropractic patients experience. Even though there needs to be more research in support of chiropractic in the field of biology, current studies regarding chiropractic have been favorable.

As part of their studies, researchers compared serum thiol levels among patients who were receiving short and long-term chiropractic care, and conventional medical care. Serum thiols, which are primary antioxidants, act as evaluators of human health status. These serum thiol tests act as a stand-in for the DNA enzyme activity repair, which is linked with aging issues. The findings showed that long-term chiropractic care of two years or longer could re-establish normal physiological states for a wide spectrum of patients. Patients with an ongoing disease had lower mean serum levels than those patients who did not show symptoms while receiving chiropractic care. The patients without symptoms also had greater serum thiol levels (even more than the normal wellness values).

During a lifetime, people undergo physical, chemical, and emotional stress. These have a direct effect on how the nervous system functions. Nerve function is linked with oxidative stress, as well as DNA repair on a cellular level. A dominant theory shows that the metabolically-generating free radicals that work as oxidative stress determine our way of aging and disease development. Oxidative stress arrives in the form of DNA damage and keeps the DNA from repairing itself. When the DNA is able to recover on its own, it can repair environmental harm.

Digestive Disorders Part1

Chiropractic care has been shown effective in the treatment of patients with digestive problems. One study showed how infants with infrequent bowel syndrome receiving chiropractic care experienced almost immediate improvement after sessions.

Another comprehensive study established a link between spinal misalignments and the occurrence of Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease brings inflammation of the small intestine, and can affect various parts of the digestive tract. This painful Inflammation results in frequent emptying of the intestines, as well as diarrhea.

The generally accepted theory around the culprit of Crohn’s disease is that the immune system is reacting to a bacterium or virus. To treat the inflammation of Crohn’s disease, the traditional approach is to use corticosteroids. However, the side-effects of corticosteroids can be serious, possibly prompting greater vulnerability to infection. Drugs that suppress the immune system are also used. In search for drug-free treatment methods, the study’s researchers delved into approaches that aided the immunological system, instead of restricting it.

Studies also indicate that there is a connection between spinal displacements and such disorders as ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel disorder, asthma, and Crohn’s disease. This particular study revealed that when displacements are corrected, symptoms of Crohn’s disease improve dramatically. Research indicates that there’s added value to chiropractic care. Not only is there improvement of digestive disorders following chiropractic care but also an overall improvement of patients’ quality of life.

The patient does not feel pain when a chiropractor adjusts misalignments that are impairing nerve function. After the patient receives a spinal adjustment, his or her uncomfortable symptoms are apt to go away.

People who endure digestive conditions find relief in chiropractic care, as it can bring balance to digestion’s innate rhythm. Along with spinal manipulation, a doctor of chiropractic could also offer nutritional counseling. Vitamin and mineral supplements, healing herbs, as well as other complementary approaches may also be suggested.
